Flower Box Mini Top

I have the Flower Box blocks put together into a 24" mini quilt top. I love how those corners come together in the center. I think this design would look great made into a larger quilt too, but I only had enough white lying around for four blocks!

I also love how the stitching looks on all of the flowers, but especially on the yellow one. The simple black outlining really helps those yellow petals stand out from the white.
I have the quilt basted together now and I'm hoping to get started on the quilting later this evening. I'm still trying to decide what to quilt in the white...either a tight stipple or a combination of swirls and pebbles. What do you think?

  1. Love it!!! I'm not sure what quilting motif, but I keep thinking that swirls have "movement" as do the petals.

  2. I'm a huge fan of micro stippling or very tiny other kinds of meanders around spaces like that. I'm sure whatever you decide on will look great!

  3. Love the flower blocks. I'm a pretty novice quilter, the first thing that came to mind for quiting around the petals was to do some echo quilting around them. I don't even know if that would be a good idea. lol
I've been to your blog quite a few times, I'm sure you'll come up with something great.

  4. Lovely Leanne, the corners do look good where they meet. A stipple always looks good, but looking forward to what you do. Thanks for dropping by my blog.

  5. I agree, the stitching around the flower petals really adds to the block. I might echo those pedals and then I agree with Anja, swirls keep coming to mind for fill. I'd throw in some pebbles too though for added interest. I can't wait to see what you do! :)

  6. I love the blocks you have up and those petals would be lovely surrounded by tight quilting. I love the idea of swirls and pebbles. Go for it!
